Celebrity Beyond itinerary rerouted to Western Caribbean to avoid Hurricane Melissa

Guests booked on Celebrity Beyond’s October 26, 2025 sailing were notified of a last-minute itinerary change as the cruise line adjusts plans to avoid the path of Hurricane Melissa.

The ship, originally scheduled to sail the Eastern Caribbean, will instead visit ports in Mexico, Belize, and Honduras.

According to a letter sent to guests, Celebrity Beyond’s Captain, along with Chief Meteorologist Craig Setzer, have been closely monitoring Hurricane Melissa. The storm is expected to bring rough seas and heavy weather to the Eastern Caribbean during the voyage.

To ensure passenger safety and minimize disruptions, Celebrity Beyond will now operate a Western Caribbean itinerary. In communication sent to passengers on the impacted sailing, the cruise line said:

“Our Captain, along with our Chief Meteorologist, Craig Setzer, has been tracking Hurricane Melissa that is expected to bring adverse weather conditions in the area of our sailing. To safely avoid the impacts from the storm, we have decided to switch our itinerary to the Western Caribbean instead of the Eastern Caribbean for this sailing.”

Celebrity Beyond’s October 26, 2025 sailing was originally scheduled to follow a seven-night Eastern Caribbean itinerary roundtrip from Miami, with planned visits to Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and St. Kitts. The ship was set to enjoy two sea days before returning to Miami on November 2.

The modified itinerary now includes three popular Western Caribbean destinations: Costa Maya, Mexico; Belize City, Belize; and Roatán, Honduras. The ship will still depart from and return to Miami, Florida, maintaining its original seven-night duration.

In a message to guests, Celebrity emphasized that safety is the top priority and noted that ships are among the safest places to be during tropical weather since they can change course to avoid storms. The letter also encouraged travelers to use the notice for insurance documentation if needed.

Hurricane Melissa is rapidly intensifying in the Caribbean

The powerful storm has undergone rapid intensification in the Caribbean Sea and is now forecast to reach Category 5 strength, according to the National Hurricane Center.

As of Saturday evening, Melissa was about 130 miles southeast of Kingston, Jamaica, moving slowly at less than 5 mph. That slow pace means heavy rain and hurricane-force winds could batter the region for days, with up to 40 inches of rainfall expected in parts of Jamaica and Haiti.

The storm is predicted to cause life-threatening flash flooding, landslides, and storm surge up to 13 feet along Jamaica’s southern coast.

Huriccane Melissa is expected to move over Jamaica on Tuesday, then eastern Cuba and the southeast Bahamas by midweek. The massive storm has forced cruise lines, including Celebrity, to reroute ships away from the Eastern Caribbean to avoid dangerous conditions.

A challenging few months for Celebrity Beyond

Celebrity Beyond’s latest weather-related reroute comes on top of months of operational challenges that have already disrupted dozens of sailings, as reported by Candid Cruise and Travel.

The ship, one of Celebrity’s Edge-class vessels, has been operating under speed restrictions since mid-2025 after experiencing propulsion problems that required emergency repairs in Freeport, Bahamas.

In July, an entire sailing was canceled so the ship could undergo immediate maintenance. Although Beyond returned to service shortly afterward, the issue hasn’t been fully resolved. The ship continues to sail at a slower speed, which limits how far it can travel between ports and forces the cruise line to adjust arrival and departure times across multiple itineraries.

Changes for itineraries were adjusted through mid-2026, when the ship is expected to enter dry dock for more extensive repairs. Until then, Celebrity Beyond’s reduced speed has led to shorter port stays, altered sailing routes, and even swapped destinations.

Between the propulsion issues and now Hurricane Melissa, Celebrity Beyond has faced an unusually challenging year. Celebrity Cruises has emphasized that guest safety remains the top priority and that every itinerary change, whether for weather or mechanical reasons, is made to ensure a smooth and reliable experience.
