Where do cruise ships dock in Marseille?

Cruise ships typically dock at the MPCT Marseille Provence Cruise Terminal, which is conveniently close to the heart of the city.

The terminal is about a 20-minute taxi ride from the city center, though many cruise lines offer complimentary shuttles into the city, depending on your cruise line.

Things to do near the Marseille cruise port

Palais Longchamp

Looking for a beautiful and free activity in Marseille? The Palais Longchamp is the place to be. This expansive park features stunning architecture and lush gardens. It was one of our favorite spots during our port visit!

St. Vincent de Paul Church

No visit to an iconic European city would be complete without stopping by a historic cathedral, and Marseille boasts several beautiful ones. St. Vincent de Paul Church, located on the way to Palais Longchamp, is free to enter and worth a visit.

Wander the city

One of the best ways to explore a new city is simply to set out on foot. Marseille is filled with charming streets and avenues to get lost in, and we had a wonderful time exploring local shops while wandering around.

Bazaar Caeser Soap

One of our favorite local shops in Marseille is Bazaar Caeser Soap, a perfect spot to pick up handmade soaps, perfumes, home goods, and more. This charming shop is tucked away on a picturesque street that’s perfect for exploration.

Marseille History Museum

The Marseille History Museum, housed in the iconic Palais des Expositions, showcases the rich, multifaceted past of this Mediterranean port city. Situated near the Vieux-Port, the museum’s modern design blends seamlessly with the historical backdrop.

Inside, you’ll journey through centuries of history—from the ancient Greek origins of Massalia to its evolution into a bustling international hub. The museum’s exhibits include maritime relics and artifacts that highlight Marseille’s role as a cultural melting pot.

Citadelle de Marseille (Fort Saint Nicolas)

The Citadelle de Marseille, also known as Fort Saint-Nicolas, stands as a sentinel overlooking the Vieux-Port and the Mediterranean.

Perched high on a hilltop, the fortress offers a commanding view of the city. Built in the 17th century by King Louis XIV to protect against maritime threats, its imposing stone walls once symbolized royal power.

Today, it offers visitors sweeping panoramic views of the city and sea, making it an essential stop to understand Marseille’s deep-rooted history. This was one of our favorite experiences during our winter Mediterranean cruise!

7VB Café

This charming café is a peaceful spot just off the main harbor area, perfect for a morning coffee or an afternoon treat while exploring.

La Bakery by Deia

If you’re craving a delicious pastry, this bakery is a must-try. With its wide variety of baked goods, it’s one of the most highly rated in the city.

Les Lumières

Located close to the harbor, this sophisticated yet casual eatery is an excellent choice for lunch. It’s also highly rated and offers a great dining experience.

Arriving a day or two before your cruise departure is always a great idea, and Marseille has plenty of great options for cruisers who want to stay in the city before or after their voyage.

Hotel Les Bords de Mer

This stunning seaside hotel is centrally located, making it a perfect choice for cruisers. With a price of around $250 per night during the busy summer season, it offers excellent value for its location.
