Dreaming of a luxurious tropical honeymoon in an overwater bungalow? The Maldives and Fiji are among the most sought-after destinations for couples looking to escape to paradise.
But just how much does a 10-night Maldives vacation or Fiji getaway really cost? I was curious, and decided to dig in and do some real research about these idyllic, beautiful locations.
I’ve broken down the numbers based on real quotes from luxury resorts and estimated airfare from the West Coast of the United States, so you can get a clear idea of what to budget for your dream tropical vacation.
Through my work as a travel advisor, I’ve had the opportunity to explore different resort offerings and secure exclusive perks at some properties—extras like complimentary breakfasts, resort credits, and room upgrades that can make a difference in both comfort and cost!
Choosing the right destination

When it comes to tropical honeymoon spots, the Maldives and Fiji are often at the top of the list. With crystal-clear waters, white sandy beaches, and world-class resorts, these destinations offer unparalleled romance to guests. Overwater bungalows, private beach access, and all-inclusive perks can also elevate the experience, but they often come at a price.
For this analysis, I’ve focused on travel dates between December 2025 and April 2026, with an estimated 10-night stay during mid-January 2026. Of course, prices can fluctuate depending on the season, room type, and availability.
For the purposes of this analysis, I have priced everything out for two people staying at a resort in one room, and flying round-trip from the West Coast of the United States. Here’s what you can expect to spend on a Maldives vacation and romantic trip to Fiji, including a few other locations to consider.
Cost for a Maldives vacation

A Maldives vacation is synonymous with exclusivity and luxury. Many of the resorts are set on their own private islands, offering a sense of seclusion and serenity. However, that remote beauty comes with logistical challenges, including long-haul flights and seaplane transfers that add to the overall expense of a trip.
Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa
- Deluxe Guest Room (Island View): $6,965
- Overwater Villa (Ocean View): $9,594
- Estimated Airfare (Round-trip from West Coast): $3,500
- Total Estimated Cost: $10,465 – $13,094
- Travel Time: Approximately 30 hours
LUX South Ari Atoll Maldives
- Beach Pavilion: $6,906
- Water Villa (Overwater): $10,150
- Estimated Airfare (Round-trip from West Coast): $3,500 (+ additional cost for seaplane transfer)
- Total Estimated Cost: $10,406 – $13,650
- Travel Time: Approximately 35 hours
- Exclusive Travel Advisor Perks: Includes daily breakfast, a complimentary sunset cruise, a welcome bottle of sparkling wine, and discounts on spa treatments.
Both of these Maldivian resorts offer stunning accommodations, but you’ll need to consider the long travel time—often over 30 hours, depending on your departure destination—including multiple flights and transfers.
How much does a trip to the Maldives cost? For a 10-day trip, you can expect to spend at least $10,000 on airfare and accommodations.
Costs for a Fiji vacation

Fiji, while still luxurious, is often a more accessible destination for many travelers, both in terms of cost and travel time. Unlike the Maldives, where nearly all accommodations are on private islands, many Fijian resorts are located on the main island of Viti Levu, eliminating the need for additional transfers.

- Estimated Airfare (Round-trip from West Coast): $2,000
- Total Estimated Cost: $6,169
- Travel Time: Approximately 17 hours

Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay
- Lagoon View Room: $3,607
- Overwater Villa: $5,128
- Estimated Airfare: $2,000
- Total Estimated Cost: $5,607 – $7,128
- Travel Time: 17 hours
Shangri-La Yanuca Island Fiji
- Ocean Deluxe Room: $2,177
- Reef Bure (Private Beach Access): $4,828
- Estimated Airfare: $2,000
- Total Estimated Cost: $4,177 – $6,828
- Exclusive Travel Advisor Perks: Hotel credit, VIP welcome amenities, and early check-in/later check-out when available.
Fiji also offers more flexibility in terms of price, with options ranging from budget-friendly garden view rooms to luxurious private beachfront bures. At some of these resorts in Fiji, I was surprised to discover that guests can book a 10-night stay at an overwater bungalow or villa for under $5,000. While that is still a lot of money to consider for a vacation, it was less than I had originally thought before I began my research.
How much does a trip to Fiji cost? You can expect to spend around $4,000 to $7,000 for a vacation to Fiji, including airfare and accommodations.

What’s the best option for your honeymoon or romantic vacation?

The cost of a 10-night tropical honeymoon varies widely depending on destination, accommodations, and travel expenses.
If you’re prioritizing an overwater bungalow in the Maldives, you’ll likely be looking at a minimum of $13,000, including airfare. If you’re open to a beachfront villa in Fiji, you could plan a luxurious stay for under $7,000. Destinations like Bora Bora and St. Lucia also offer unique experiences, but they often come at a premium cost.
For couples dreaming of a tropical honeymoon, it’s essential to factor in not just the nightly rate of a resort but also airfare, transfer costs, and any additional expenses like dining, excursions, and spa treatments. Through my work as a travel advisor, I’ve found that some of the best-value trips come from leveraging exclusive perks—like complimentary breakfasts, spa discounts, and resort credits—that can add up to meaningful savings.
Many of these resorts also offer all-inclusive packages that cover all food and drinks for the duration of your stay. While these rates can increase the upfront cost, they provide a hassle-free experience for those who want to pay once and not worry about expenses adding up later. For honeymooners looking to fully indulge without budgeting for every meal and cocktail, all-inclusive resorts can be a fantastic option.
No matter where you choose, the key is to find the right balance between luxury and budget to create an unforgettable experience!
