Brawl breaks out at Royal Caribbean’s CocoCay, shutting down Oasis Lagoon

A violent fight involving more than 30 people broke out Sunday afternoon at Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay, according to other cruisers who witnessed the scene.

The altercation occurred at Oasis Lagoon, the island’s largest freshwater pool, and the area was shut down temporarily.

Witnesses posting on the r/royalcaribbean Reddit thread described a chaotic and scary scene that escalated quickly.

“Anyone else at Oasis pool see the 30+ person brawl? One guy was bleeding quite a bit and it shut down the entire pool,” one user wrote.

The user continued in the comment section that they were in Oasis Lagoon with their child near the swim-up bar when the incident occurred.

“I had to put her on the counter and push the crowd away from us. It happened so fast. The lifeguard started blowing a whistle. I thought it was a joke, but it turned out to be the start of the fight.”

Other guests said they didn’t witness the altercation but saw the aftermath, including a man with blood on his shirt being escorted by security.

Some video clips of the incident have started surfacing online by other passengers. One user, Salt + Sky Travel, shared a TikTok video of guests in the Oasis Lagoon pool starting to fight.

In the video, one large group of cruisers can be seen fighting near the swim-up bar in Oasis Lagoon. The cruisers begin throwing punches and screaming at each other. Onlookers at the bar can also be seen watching the commotion. Other passengers witnessing the brawl escalate in the pool begin slowly move away from the group.

“I didn’t see the brawl. Didn’t realize one occurred. But now it makes sense the guy that had blood all over his white tank that was sucking down a ciggy like he only had a 5 minute lunch break. Him and his group were met by security.  I hope someone posts some factual details,” noted another Royal Caribbean guest visiting the private island.

Oasis Lagoon is known for its lively atmosphere at Perfect Day at CocoCay, with a DJ and swim-up bar that make it a popular spot for adults. While most visits to CocoCay are incident-free, the pool’s party vibe has occasionally sparked complaints about rowdy behavior.

Utopia of the Seas docked at Perfect Day at CocoCay

The incident happened while Utopia of the Seas and Jewel of the Seas were both docked at Perfect Day at CocoCay, bringing thousands of passengers ashore. It’s unclear at this time which ship the guests were sailing on.

Utopia of the Seas is Royal Caribbean’s newest Oasis class ship, which is branded as the “World’s Biggest Weekend.” Like most cruise line private islands, Perfect Day at CocoCay is meant to be a relaxing getaway for cruisers. Royal Caribbean’s private island is located in The Bahamas and only Royal Caribbean guests can access the island.

As of now, Royal Caribbean has not issued an official statement about the brawl, and it’s unclear whether any arrests were made or if the guests involved will be banned from future sailings.
