Celebrity Cruises canceled the July 20, 2025 Celebrity Beyond sailing due to technical issues needing extended repair time.
The news follows days of speculation about whether the new vessel would be ready for its upcoming cruise.
Celebrity Beyond slowed its return to Miami, causing the ship to arrive one day later than scheduled. The cruise line states that repairs will require additional time, despite teams working diligently to repair the issues.
Passengers booked on the cancelled cruise shared the news across social media on Sunday evening, including Facebook and Reddit. In a communication sent to booked guests, Celebrity Cruises announced:
“After carefully considering all options, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the July 20, 2025 sailing. We sincerely apologize for this unexpected change and the disruption this causes to your travel plans.”
The cruise line said a technical issue slowed the ship, requiring more time for repairs despite diligent work by their teams.
While Celebrity Cruises hasn’t disclosed the exact nature of the technical issue, signs point to a propulsion or engine-related problem. Guests on the delayed sailing observed an uneven wake behind the ship, which is a possible indication it was running on a single propeller.
This confirmation follows a weekend of uncertainty for passengers onboard and those booked for upcoming cruises. Previously, Celebrity Cruises had informed guests that Celebrity Beyond was experiencing a technical problem affecting its speed, delaying the ship’s return to Miami.
At that time, the cruise line’s plan was to postpone the next voyage by a day until July 21. But with no clear timeline for repairs, Celebrity ultimately opted to cancel the entire sailing. Unfortunately, some passengers had already arrived to Miami for the sailing.
“We know we can’t give you your vacation time back; however, we do remain committed to making this right,” the cruise line wrote to guests.
Compensation details
Celebrity Cruises is offering impacted passengers a full refund for the cancelled cruise, including any non-refundable deposits and pre-paid amenities. Guests will receive a Future Cruise Credit equal to 100% of their fare, valid on any Celebrity sailing within one year.
Celebrity will reinstate original FCCs used for the canceled sailing and refund any additional payments made.
The cruise line states that refunds will be processed automatically within 14 business days. Guests do not need to take any action.
Assistance with flights and travel plans
Celebrity has pledged to assist with travel disruptions as well, especially for those who booked flights independently. The cruise line will reimburse up to $200 domestic, $400 international flight change fees, plus $250 for one night’s hotel stay.

A string of issues on Celebrity Beyond
The canceled sailing follows a pattern of mechanical troubles on Celebrity Beyond, which first launched in November 2022 as the third ship in Celebrity’s Edge Series. Despite being considered state-of-the-art, the ship has faced technical problems that have raised concerns among cruisers.
Passengers recently reported show cancellations and worn furnishings on the ship—unusual for a vessel only two years old.
One Reddit user onboard the prior Celebrity Beyond sailing stated, “Ship is moving extremely slow. After several weeks of technical issues in the theater, now mechanical problems. Wow. That’s a lot for a 2 ½-year-old ship.”
