Mooring lines snap on Norwegian Prima during high winds in Port Canaveral

Norwegian Prima docked in Costa Maya, Mexico

Several mooring lines on Norwegian Prima snapped during strong winds on January 18, 2026, causing the vessel to briefly drift away from the pier while docked in Central Florida.

Video footage shared by Crew Center on TikTok shows the moment the ship pulled away from the dock as port personnel and tugboats moved quickly to respond. Tugboats assisted in stabilizing the vessel and guiding it back into a safe position alongside the pier.

The incident occurred amid an unseasonably strong cold front moving through Florida, bringing lower-than-normal temperatures and high winds to the Space Coast. Witnesses at the terminal described particularly gusty conditions at the time, which disrupted normal embarkation operations.

According to messages from individuals on site, luggage delivery was temporarily halted while crews worked to secure the ship.

One account referenced a “Code Echo” announcement onboard (this is a shipboard alert commonly associated with a vessel beginning to drift or requiring immediate navigational response). While cruise lines do not publicly disclose internal alert protocols, such announcements are typically used during situations requiring immediate operational action.

No injuries were reported, and there have been no indications of damage to the ship.

Port operations resumed once the vessel was safely secured, and embarkation continued after the situation was brought under control. As of publication, neither Norwegian Cruise Line nor Port Canaveral authorities have issued an official statement regarding the incident.
